Most product reviews summarize with something like “The Good” and “The Bad” lists, but quite honestly, there isn’t really anything bad to mention about the MoVI XL. There is always room for small incremental improvements and certainly more extensive functionality such as full 360 degree roll and tilt would be welcome, but from a normal everyday use, these are merely nice-to-haves. When you consider the exceptional performance of the MoVI XL in the extreme environments we pushed it in, combined with its unbelievable value – a fraction of the cost of its closest competitor, it’s hard to do anything but smile and start planning our next epic shooting adventure with the Freefly Systems MoVI XL.
You can find all the specs and functionality on the Freefly Systems website, but here are a few additional notable features:
• Integrated FIZ system – compatible with all 7 pin lemo lens motors, such as Heden, Preston, Hocus, and RED. Motors plug directly into the MoVI XL gimbal and are controllable via the MoVI Controller, the new Freefly Pilot FIZ hand unit, and soon other hand units such as Preston, Cmotion, Hocus, and Redrock Micro.
• Lock-able roll / pan / tilt axis – rotate a plate, lock in the pin, axis is locked in place while you balance another axis or work on your camera.
• Full integration with RED cameras – dial in all the RED setting you can think of on the back of the gimbal or via the MoVI Controller. A massive time saver on set!
• Similar to the MoVI Pro, there are several P-Tap power outputs available to power your wireless video system, your lens control, a rain spinner, your camera, etc.
